Hydroxychloroquine Sulfate Alleviates Persistent Proteinuria in IgA Nephropathy (HCQIgAN)
This trial will study how hydroxychloroquine can affect IgAN patients by possible reducing or eliminating proteinuria. Previous studies have found that hydroxychloroquine can aid in renal remission and delay renal damage in patients with lupus nephritis. Hydroxychloroquine is an antimalarial agent and is able to affect immune activation by reducing many of the cells that play a factor in abnormal mucosal response, or deviant biological responses on the surfaces of the kidney exposed to the environment. Given the known abilities of hydroxychloroquine, it’s effects on IgAN patients will be studied.
